HouseCrew Money vs Monarch

An honest comparison for couples choosing a money app: what each does better, what each costs, and which to choose.

Checked October 2026

Monarch is the app many couples moved to when Mint closed, and it's polished: bank sync, investments, phone apps and goals. Money does something narrower. It looks closely at the next few weeks of each account, and keeps your records agreeing with the bank's, without connecting to the bank at all.

Two kinds of forecast

Monarch's forecasting, in its Plus plan, is long-range planning: where your net worth is heading, and what buying a home or changing jobs would do to it. Money's forecast is short-range and exact: Checking's balance on each of the next 90 days, from your actual bills, card statements and paydays, and a warning when it'll dip under your alert. If you want to know whether you can retire at 60, Monarch Plus answers that. If you want to know whether rent and the card payment clear before payday, that's Money.

Choose Monarch if…

  • You want every account connected and updated without lifting a finger.
  • You track investments and net worth, or plan years ahead.
  • You want a phone app from the app stores.

Choose HouseCrew Money if…

  • You'd rather not connect your bank accounts to any app.
  • Your bills and paydays land close together, and you want to see each account's lowest point coming.
  • You reconcile against your statements, or would like to.
  • You want the option of keeping your data on your own PC, or paying once.

Moving across

Money reads Monarch's transaction export directly, every account in one file, with categories kept and transfers paired. Export from Monarch on the web, then drop the file on Money.
