No bank password, ever

Keep your budget on your PC, or online for your household. Download everything any time. No ads, and your data is never sold.

A week with Money

  1. Download your bank's file

Every bank and card offers one: QFX, OFX or CSV, or the statement PDF. Here's where to find it.

  2. Drop it in

Several files at once is fine. Money works out which account each is for, skips what it already has, suggests categories and pairs the transfers. You check the few it isn't sure about.

  3. Look ahead

Your paycheck, rent and card payments are schedules, so the forecast fills in on its own. If Checking runs low on the 3rd, you'll know on the 23rd.

Who it's for

  • Couples and families who run a household's money together.
  • Anyone whose paydays and bills land close together.
  • Quicken and Microsoft Money users who want a modern app and their data on their PC.
  • People who won't hand their bank password to an aggregator.

Who it isn't for

  • People who want every account connected, and never to look.
  • Tracking an investment portfolio.
  • Zero-based budgeting in YNAB's style.
  • Running a business's books.

Questions people ask

No bank sync?

No bank passwords. Your bank already gives you the files: download one a week and drop it in. Money recognizes the account, skips what it already has, files the payees and pairs the transfers.

What if you shut down?

You’d get at least 90 days’ notice, a full export, and a final Windows version that keeps working on your data without an account. The Windows app already works with no account at all.

Can my kids see our money?

No. Only the people you add to a budget can see it. Being in your HouseCrew household doesn’t give anyone access.

Is my data safe?

Online budgets are kept apart by rules in the database itself, and encrypted in transit and at rest. Money never stores a bank login. Or keep everything on your PC. How we keep it safe.

Why pay when other apps are free?

Free apps are paid for by ads or by your data. Money is paid for by the people who use it, at about half of what the bank-sync apps charge. Pricing.

Is it hard to switch?

Money reads QIF files from Quicken and Microsoft Money, exports from YNAB, Monarch and Mint, and your bank’s OFX, QFX, CSV and PDF statements. Switching guides.
