HouseCrew Money vs Quicken Classic

An honest comparison for Quicken users on Windows: what each does better, what each costs, and which to choose.

Checked October 2026

Quicken Classic is the app many people have used for twenty years, and it still does things Money doesn't: automatic downloads from your bank, investment tracking, and a Mac version. Money is for the people who mostly use Quicken to know what's coming and to keep their records matching the bank, and want that in a modern app.

  • You track investments, lots or capital gains.
  • You use a Mac, or need bill pay from inside the app.
  • You rely on its reports, or on features Money doesn't have yet, like tax planning.

Choose HouseCrew Money if…

  • You want to see each account's balance on the days ahead, and a warning before one runs low.
  • You reconcile every month and would like the statement to do the ticking.
  • You share the money with a partner, each on your own computer.
  • You'd rather not give any app your bank password.
  • You'd like to pay once and keep your data on your PC.
